DESCRIPTION:\nApplications are now closed for the 2010 Australian Synchrotr
on Winter School on Synchrotron Radiation Science.\nIf you have applied to
attend the Winter School\, please check this page regularly for updates.
\n\nThe Australian Synchrotron\, in conjunction with ANZAAS\, will be host
ing the annual Winter School on Synchrotron Radiation Science from 12-15 J
uly\, 2010. The school aims to assist early career researchers to develop
an understanding of synchrotron radiation science and its applicability to
a vast range of fields of scientific research.\nOver this 4-day course pa
rticipants will be provided with an overview of synchrotron radiation scie
nce and its applications by world-leading experts. In addition\, students
will be provided with a unique opportunity to experience cutting-edge sync
hrotron science techniques for themselves – each student will be provided
access to the Australian Synchrotron beamline of their choice to practice
the techniques that may be of relevance to their research. This is an oppo
rtunity for early career researchers to enhance their existing skills and
further their research careers.\nApplications are open to students current
ly enrolled in an Honours program (or equivalent)\, or undertaking their f
irst year Masters or PhD course in Australia or New Zealand. Students who
are interested in attending the school must complete an online application
(see below)\, and should attach a copy of their academic transcript (unde
rgraduate to current) and a letter of recommendation from their principal
academic supervisor.\nA maximum of 45 places will be available for the Win
ter School. Applications will be ranked based on merit using a review proc
ess undertaken in conjunction with the leading scientists in residence at
the Australian Synchrotron. In addition\, to ensure that all students have
an opportunity to participate\, no more than three (3) students from any
one Institution will be accepted to the School.\nCourse Fees\nThe Australi
an Synchrotron aims to support the development of young\, Australian resea
rchers and help them to achieve outstanding research outcomes using synchr
otron radiation science. For this reason there will be no registration or
course fees associated with attendance at the Australian Synchrotron Winte
r School.\nAccommodation\nThe Australian synchrotron will organise and ful
ly fund accommodation for students attending the Winter School from inters
tate and rural locations. Accommodation for Melbourne participants will be
subject to the discretion of the Australian Synchrotron.\nMeals\nMeals wi
ll be provided during the day program\, but breakfast and dinner will not
be included.\nTravel\nThe Australian Synchrotron will not be funding trave
 l. Students will be required to arrange their own travel\, including airpo
rt transfers\, and must ensure they are available to attend all sessions.
\nApplications for the Australian Synchrotron Winter School are open from
1st March 2010 and will close at 12 noon on April 9th. No late application
s will be accepted. Applications must be completed online. Successful appl
icants will be notified by Friday June 4th.\nEnquiries should be sent to j
 onathan.debooy@synchrotron.org.au.\n\nHomepage image: Haishun Jin\, a Mast
