Most international carriers arrive at Melbourne Tullarine Airport (MEL). The are two simple option for travel from the airport to the city.

Bus and Tram

Directions:

From the lower level at the main terminal at Melbourne Tullamarine Airport take the Skybus to Southern Cross Railway Station. Buying a return ticket is the cheapest option (~AUD$36). When you arrive at Southern Cross Station you can take the tram or a taxi.

If you decide to take a tram you will need to purchase a separate ticket, which can only be done with coins on the tram. If you don't have coins you can buy a ticket with card or cash from the train station, ask for the nearest ticket booth or ticketing machine. From the bus terminal, walk into the main station where the trains are and the large high curved roof is. Keep walking straight to the end of the platforms to find the ticket booth.

To get to the tram, exit Southern Cross Station to Spencer St and walk to your right and take the first left into Collins St. Take any tram east away from the station along Collins St and get off at stop number 6 on Swanston St.

Should take ~40 min depending on wait times.

Cost:

Bus ~AUD$36, tram ~AUD$5 (or taxi ~$5). ~AUD$46 RETURN

Taxi

Direction:

On the lower level of the main terminal, take a taxi from the taxi directly into the city, should take ~20 min depending on traffic.

Cost:

Taxi ~AUD$50 (one way, ~AUD$100 return)
