At the forefront of synchrotron science since 2007, the Australian Synchrotron has empowered thousands of researchers to innovate and problem-solve. The 2016 announcement of 10 years’ secure operational funding and a transfer of ownership to the Australian Government through ANSTO heralds an exciting new phase of productivity and discovery.
A streamlined access model
The updated access model, effective from 1 July 2016, addresses the needs of the Australian Synchrotron’s academic and industry-user community, and the entitlements of the organisation’s funders. It is consistent with international best practice for synchrotron science facility access.
Developed in consultation with stakeholder groups
The Australian Synchrotron developed the updated access model in close consultation with its shareholders and current and past funders – collectively representing more than 90% of users. The organisation also listened to valuable input directly from its wider user community, and from its program advisory committees.
Simplified access criteria for merit-based access candidates
The main features of the access model are unchanged. The most significant and beneficial difference is removal of complexity. The updated access model is consistent with a simpler funding model for the Australian Synchrotron as it becomes part of ANSTO.
