The third Cheiron Synchrotron School will be held at SPring-8 in Japan from 2 to 11 November 2009. The school is held annually under the auspices of the Asia-Oceania Forum for Synchrotron Radiation Research (AOFSRR).
The Cheiron School's main aim is to provide useful and basic knowledge and perspectives on synchrotron radiation science and technology for graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, young scientists and engineers who wish to pursue their career in a field requiring synchrotron radiation and join a synchrotron radiation facility in the Asia-Oceania region.
The curriculum will include:
- Lectures by experts in the field of SR science and technology: accelerator science, insertion devices, beamlines/optics, detectors and a wide range of experimental techniques and applications including diffraction and scattering, soft and hard x-ray microscopy, powder diffraction, small angle scattering, protein crystallography, medical imaging, x-ray fluorescence analysis, vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) applications, infrared spectroscopy/microscopy, etc
- Laboratory (beamline) practical training sessions using SPring-8 beamline facilities
- Round-table discussions with lecturers and SR researchers/engineers about practical and specific activities at synchrotron facilities.
