The new members appointed in February were: Professor Keith Nugent School of Physics University of Melbourne; Dr Lisa Miller Life and Environmental Sciences Group Leader National Synchrotron Light Source Brookhaven National Laboratories; Professor Brendan Kennedy Professor of Chemistry University of Sydney; and, Professor Michael Hart, Emeritus Professor of Physics University of Manchester. Professor Mitchell Guss, Professor of Molecular and Microbial Biosciences Faculty of Science University of Sydney, was appointed to the SAC late in 2009.
The new members join SAC Chair, Professor Ted Baker, Professor of Biological Sciences University of Auckland; Professor Xu Hongjie, Director of Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility; Professor Soichi Wakatsuki, Director Photon Factory Synchrotron Radiation Facility, Japan; and, Professor Janet Smith University of Michigan Medical School Life Sciences Institute.
Australian Synchrotron Chair, Mrs Catherine Walter AM, said the Board appreciated the work of Professor Ted Baker, advice from SAC, staff, users and the science community who nominated candidates for SAC.
“The Synchrotron is delighted to have an outstanding group of Australian and international scientists advising the facility at a time when it is planning significant new expansion and development,” she said.
