The annual Australian Synchrotron Open Day will take place on Sunday 14 October 2012 from 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.
With increasing numbers of interested people coming along to see what takes place in “that round building” in Clayton, our Open Days are on the way to becoming a much anticipated family day out.
This year we are planning an even bigger and better event, opening up the new National Centre for Synchrotron Science (on the Australian Synchrotron site) for public access the same day.
There are self-guided tours for people who are happy to wander around the facility for a general look, and specialist tours in more specific areas of interest. Friendly experts will again present our popular audiovisual ‘Synchrotron for Dummies’ sessions and attempt to answer all your questions.
Children’s activities include colouring-in for pre-schoolers through to 12 year olds and investigative activities pitched to suit late primary school – early secondary school ages in our new education laboratory.
Families may note that we are once again expecting a visit from Tubby the Robot. This time, however, he is bringing someone with him!
Entry is free. Refreshments and barbecue lunches are available to purchase from the local Rotary group.
T-shirts and other items of synchrotron merchandise will also be available for purchase. Prices range from $2 for a pen and $2.50 for a stress ball to $20 for a children’s T-shirt and $30 for one of our brand-new, high-quality ‘look on the bright side’ T-shirts in a range of adult sizes.
